I had a great summer charging my hockey batteries in a 5 month regeneration program that began in Minot,ND and concluded in Dallas with an opportunity to Guest Coach with the Topeka RoadRunners of the NAHL.

Here are just a very few of the hockey highlights I heard in the last 5 months.

“I like my Alpha D man to be in a real bad mood when handling the rush,”Al Bloomer National Coach in Chief.

“I watch that young D man on the ice and his lack of details are a reflection of his coaching last year,” John Bocenic, former Head Coach Everett Silvertips WHL.

“One thing for sure, fat equals slow and skinny equals slow,” Jed Ortmyer Omaha U18 AAA Coach.

“To play for the Omaha Lancers you need to be a great citizen, student and committed to playing hockey late into May 2010,” Bliss Littler Head Coach Omaha Lancers.

“In hockey there are a lot of great people, but for whatever reason, everyone is an expert,” Mike Butters GM Norfolk AHL.

“Its’ a lot better to be committed rather than just dedicated,” Craig Sarner Director of Player Development Omaha Lancers.

“Where’s my state farm guy? I need him in the house,” Scott Langer Head Coach Topeka RoadRunners.

“I want to have a competitive hockey team but equally important I want to entertain our fans,” Don Stone Owner Topeka RoadRunners.

“Fellows if you are not stressing education as number one priority to your players you are cheating them,” Mike Eaves U of Wisconsin Men’s Team.

“That lack of attention in the defensive zone is nothing more than a “shmozzle,” RJ Enga Asst. Coach Topeka RoadRunners.

“IF YOU GUYS WANT TO PLAY JUNIOR A, COLLEGE OR PROFESSIONAL IT’S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO WORK AND PLAY WITH COURAGE,” AJ Toews Scout New York Rangers.

“Guys if you aren’t going to bust your butt to the net and get your nose dirty or rearranged we are never going to score,” Mike Aikens Head Coach U16 AAA Russell Stover.

“The work you do in the gym will make the difference today, tomorrow and for the rest of your career,” Todd Ferschweiler Head Coach Russell Stover U18 AAA.

“When your teams backcheck they need to funnel back through the middle with sticks and legs taking away passing lanes,” Mike Sullivan Asst. Coach New York Rangers.

“When you are on a team loyalty is not an option, its expected,” Glen Mason former U of MN Head football Coach.

“Drill 238 was very important to help our team and Jason Blake learn how important it was to take short shifts, because 2 min. 38 sec. shift is a little long for an NHL player,” Ron Wilson Head Coach Toronto Maple Leafs.

“By the age of 14 ,68% of players who began playing hockey at ages 5-7 in the USA have quit,” Ken Martel USA Hockey – ADM Director.

“There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about the 1980 game against the Russians,” Mark Johnson Head Coach U of Wisconsin Women.

“You have to create a fear free environment for your skilled players to play within,” Brian Burke GM Toronto Maple Leafs.

“It’s important to create conflict amongst your players, it breeds accountability,” John Tortorella Head Coach New York Rangers.

”If I don’t should far pad on the entry I won’t play for a month,” Tyler Haskins Bridgeport AHL.

“If someone turns on the lights in here, we are in trouble,” unknown…
